The feeling you get when you are left hanging for what feels like an excruciatingly long period of time.
Having to wait two whole months before knowing if I got the job gave me a severe case of mental blueballs.

A very common disease that is often displayed in Politically-Correct People.
One typical example of this is when a chorus sings a patriotic song such as "The Star-Spangled Banner", the audience thinks they should stand up and sing along just in case anyone wants to question their patriotism. Quite hard to cure, highly amusing.

Random movie theater audience member: Wow, that was such a great movie that I think I'll get up and clap!
*the whole audience notices and does the same*
Another more sensible audience member: ...They do know that they're applauding at an inanimate object, right?
Me: Poor souls, they've been inflicted with Herd Mentality.

The mental effect of realizing that a basic assumption of your entire life was wrong from day one, usually resulting from a totally new thought, comment, or experience that flies in the face of everything you currently know.

Mental whiplash is the psychological equivalent maxing out your revs in Third, and then accidentally shifting into Reverse instead of High.

When you like/love someone but they don't know it or they don't feel the same way about you.
Eventually you cannot stop thinking about them and it becomes constant.
You think about them when you wake up and they're your last thought before you go to bed.
No matter how hard you try, they're constantly on your mind and there's nothing you can do about it because you're too afraid of rejection or you're too good of friends with them and if you tell them how you feel, you're afraid/you know they won't feel the same way and your friendship will end, right there and then.
The painful, constant thoughts rapidly bounce against the walls of your mind until they just mentally destroy you. This one-sided relationship with that one person is literally destroying you.
