Nicholson is somewhat of a gimmickry writer as is evidenced by his novel "vox" a novel About a man who Carries on a sexual relationship with a phone sex operator in the pre internet early 90s. In some ways similar to spike jones more recent movie "her"where a guy falls for his os in a digital sense.

Nicholson baker wrote "mezzanine" an app 130 pp novel. About an office workers 30 second ride up an escalator to the mezzanine level of his office building. Novels such as these are what cements Baker's reputation as the master of minutae.
