Animation for short, anime. It is used for Japanese animation.

In Japanese, animation is アニメーション (anime-syonn)

so they cut off some parts and turned it into アニメ (anime) only.

Person A: Hey did you know anime was just a short for animation and not a word for Japanese animation?
Person B: What really? I thought it was another word!
