Get the The Great Tragedy mug.The Great Resignation is a phenomenon that describes record numbers of people leaving their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, often with no other job lined up and with no plans to resume working.
The trend is associated with the anti-work movement and a resurgence in support for labor-centric socioeconomics, and is heavily influenced by the stagnation of wages since the end of the Cold War. However, at least part of the trend has been a result of the popularity of remote work and a reluctance to resume working in office settings, which are largely seen as wasteful and/or uncomfortable in comparison with workers' private residences.
