I found the word jock on here, and every definition I read (about 15) was negetive. I then got curious and searched nerd, and every one of those defnitions were positive. Many of those gave nerds extreme dominance. I sense a little bias. I think we know what steriotype gets on this site the most.
(I am not a nerd or a jock)

Someone who is a academically committed. It is usually not a good thing when it gets to extreme (complaining to the teachers about empty syllabi, unprofessional behavior etc.) Anyway, there are a lot of misconceptions about nerds. Here are a few:
1. Someone can act and look totally nerdy, but is an amazing athlete. Likewise, someone can look fit and great at playing cool, but can't play sports to save their life.
2. Nerds can act like nerds at school, but when they get home, they are just like any regular kid who is not a nerd (maybe even more awesome!) This is sometimes but not always caused by parents who are very strict about academic performance.

Jock: You're a nerd I'm gonna beat the shit outta you!
Nerd: All right.
Jock: *punches a double punch*
Nerd: *blocks it and side thrusts in the Jocks face which immediate knocks jock dead.* I'm gonna go out and play some football with the Jocks!

Someone who attends school and is glued to their textbooks for most of the time and never misses a single word the teacher or professor says. They are often over-achievers who score very high or even perfect on term tests and exams - and many wonder how afterwards. They do however lack a social life. They are rarely seen hanging out with friends, playing games, going to the mall, or going to the movies.
Anyone can become a nerd if they want to or are "forced" to due to high expectations from friends, parents, etc.

A sad, socially awkward person who plays games like Dungeons and Dragons, and RuneScape. Nerds often go on about how people envy them and they will be sucessful blah blah blah but most nerds are just pitied and end up being sad old losers who live with their moms stuck in a dead end job in an office STILL playing their nerd games.
"wow look at that nerd, playing Runescape"
"Nerd: You're just jealous"
*Normal*: Of what? your non-existent social life? your complete inability to make friends? Your acne?"

A nerd is NOT required to be socially awkward OR ugly. Ugly or socially awkward people are geeks, dorks, or dweebs. If your definition falls under any of that, leave this right now.
A nerd is a person who has a high level of intelligence and puts most of it toward schoolwork. Usually nerds group together in clans of 5-10 and have fun.
Nerds do NOT follow society's trends.
Nerds fall into different categories:
Gamer - Someone who puts most, if not all, of their time into playing video games and learning all there is to know about them. Usually they start off early in life, playing stuff like Mario, then they play more games in that series, eventually moving up to all genres, including shooter, platformer, and RPG. They can be found in large groups at conventions such as MAGFest and Pax East.
Internet nerd - Internet nerds usually develop to be gamers, spending a lot of time on websites to kill time and listen to music. They generally know programming and how to fix their own computer. They tend to go to places like Memebase, being able to reference things that no one really knows, making it awkward when they do.
Bookworm - This nerd spends a LOT of time reading. More than likely they're team Harry Potter. They sometimes obsess over books, buying costumes for the characters and going to all the midnight premieres. Some are so bent on reading all the time that they've had books confiscated in class.
