Marcos, elected for 6 years, created a martial law dictatorship. The result was a brutal 20-year regime responsible for the systematic terrorizing, torture and death of approx. 85,000 citizens. Critics were murdered, newspapers censored, and thousands disappeared without a trace, never to be found. Marcos and his wife Imelda were also proven to have plundered circa 10 billion US dollars from the nation's coffers. Ultimately, the clan was ousted during the People Power Revolution of 1986, after the military cut ties with the dictator.
In 2022, millions of young voters were duped and brainwashed by the clan into believing that the Marcos era was one of golden opportunity and economic growth, by means of denial, fake news, paid troll accounts and terrifying historic revisionism.
