Nod of aknowledgement

a nod of the head (either a swift upward jerk of the head, or a slower, downward nod of the head) sometimes exchanged between African-Americans (particularly males, regardless of age), given in acknowledgement of each other's presence and the presumed, shared struggles of being an African-American man. Prevalance of the nod varies greatly from city to city or geographic region.

Non African-American companion upon observing the Nod: "Do you know that guy? Why did you two just do that?"
African-American man: "No, I've never seen him before. I was just giving him a 'Nod of aknowledgement'. We don't all know each other; it's just a form of respect."

The act of reading something on the internet (on usenet, in the days before the web was invented) and simply physically nodding your head in agreement rather than posting a (content-free) "me too" message.

Down nod

The down nod is a typically male greeting meaning "Hello." It is used for those you consider your equals as well as those you respect. It is more formal than the up nod.

I saw my professor walking down the hallway towards me. I gave him a down nod as a sign of respect.

gym nod

The silent communication between people working out at the gym. It usually occurs when making eye contact with someone and giving them a 'what's up' head bob without saying a word. gymnasium, gym, gym talk, working out, workout, exercise, lift weights, cardio, spinning, running, jogging, talk, speak

I see the same people at the gym every day and don't know their names. I just give them the old gym nod and keep working out.

Nod Goblin- noun

A fantasy explanation/ or excuse for the men loss or misplacing of valuable personal items or narcotics while losing consciousness after taking powerful narcotics yourself.

Example:
