Down nod

The down nod is a typically male greeting meaning "Hello." It is used for those you consider your equals as well as those you respect. It is more formal than the up nod.

I saw my professor walking down the hallway towards me. I gave him a down nod as a sign of respect.

waffle hand hold

Also known as the "relationship hand hold" the waffle hand hold is when two people hold hands by lacing their fingers together. It's a higher level hand hold, surpassing the pancake hand hold in intimacy.

A: Fred and I held hands waffle style.

B: The waffle hand hold? I didn't know you guys were that serious.

Guys typically use the up nod as a sort of "sup" greeting. It is less formal than the down nod.

Jay gave me an up nod as I walked down the hall. "Sup," I replied.

pancake hand hold

The pancake hand hold is the most conservative of the hand holds. Used most commonly in a parent-child relationship. Palms together, fingers are not interlaced.

A: Let's hold hands.
B: Okay but only a pancake hand hold otherwise people will think we're dating!
