The approach to problem solving that uses overwhelming mass (of money, people (particularly programmers) military power, etc) to solve a problem but ignores any requirement to consider how best to apply the mass of resources available or alternatives to its mass use.
Three examples: 1. NASA Astronauts pen: Russian solution to NASA multi million Dollar 'works in zero gravity' pen - the pencil. 2. The second Gulf War. 3. In IT brute force and ignorance is a design technique adopted by many software houses; brute force coding that ignores (retrievable) knowledge of how problems have been solved before in more elegant ways.

Brute force cleaning is the act cleaning something by using nothing more than paper towels and all your might.
