When the media trys to start an Internet fight or trys to promote hate by posting a racial story or controversial subject. In reality, no one actually cares about that subject.
The Starbucks red cup was only trying to start a fight. In reality, no one cared.
The picture of the Christmas presents stacked to the ceiling was trying to claim abuse. In reality, no one cared. You just got red cupped.

Red Cup Pictures are photos, traditionally appearing on Facebook, which generally depict some sort of partying. The etymology of the term comes from the fact that most of these photos show one or more people holding red plastic disposable cups which are commonly used for alcoholic beverages at youth gatherings.
Rachel: I just looked through all of my facebook "added by others" pictures. What a pleasant walk down memory lane!
Michael: How many Red Cup pictures?
Rachel: Too many.

a typical party where everything that is being drank is poured into red, plastic cups. this is a stereotype, not a fact, but it is still very common amongst college and high school students.

The main rule is this: If you are underage and drinking at a party, good deal. The point at which the rule applies is when you go to put pictures of that night on Facebook or any other social networking site. If you or anyone underage is holding a red cup, don't post it. Future employers and people's parents don't need photographic evidence. "Nobody believes it's just soda in your Solo cup."
Me: Damn John, yall got wasted last night.
John: I know man, put those pictures up on fb!
Me: Sorry bro, red cup rule. I don't need your mom bitching at me again.
