Using the suffering of less-fortunate people as a spectacle, such as in "The Ones Who walk away from Omelas" by Ursula LeGuin. Can be used to describe things like slum tours, or visiting sites associated with tragedy such as Auschwitz.

The slum tour is so unethical and fucked up. The tourists are omelasing.

Omelas

A member added to a group chat who exists to be the sacrificial lamb all other members can rag on without fear of repercussion. Name derived from the titular city of short story The Ones Who Walk Away From Omelas, wherein a city is perfect and happy as long as one child is left in abject misery at its heart.

Cringey was only added to the group chat to be the omelas, and with her gone, we need to find a new one.
