A word used when exclaiming sudden confusion in chat rooms and other chats. Stemmed from the slang wot, evolved from a typo. Not to be confused with what, which is to be used when not too lazy.

As penniless children when we were hoping for some free handouts and when biscuits were sold loose from large tins of biscuits we would ask the local grocer if they had any free broken biscuits (which couldn’t be sold) or we might ask “ have you got owt for nowt?” at a jumble sale or a fair.
