Get the Elliott Smith mug.Folk-rock singer who was considered one of the best songwriters of his generation. He was best known for his songs from the film "Good Will Hunting" and songs that focused on drug addiction, failed relationships, self-loathing, suicide etc. His music was very sad, indeed.
He started out as an indie singer in Portland, but gained more recognition when Gus Van Sant decided to use some of his songs from his 1997 album called "Either/Or" (which is probably his best album). Smith also wrote a song for the movie called "Miss Misery," which earned him an Academy Award nomination. Unfortunately, he lost to Celine Dion (It was the "Titanic" year).
Sadly, Smith took his own life in Fall of 2003 by plunging a knife to his heart. He was 34.

Get the Elliott Smith mug.Elliott Smith was a well known American singer-songwriter and musican. His voice was known as being whispery, and thin, yet cold as ice. After being in a band called Heatmiser for a few years, he began a career in solo singing in 1994. he was well known for battling with alchol, depression and drugs and often included them in his songs. He died on October 21, 2003 at the age of 34. I think his best album was *Figure 8.*

He was not folk, even though he played acroustic He came out with his 1st solo album, Roman Candle, in 1994. He was nominated for an academy award for his work in Good Will Hunting,but lost to Celine Dion. Most people believed he comitted suicide, but I'm convinced his girlfriend killed him. I mean, seriously, who spells their name wrong on their suicide note? Some people think his songs are depressing, but I don't think so. Anyway, Elliott Smith is an artist much missed.
