Slingshot Effect

When a driver is released from or breaks through a traffic obstruction and accelerates excessively as if to make up for lost mileage. As the driver is restrained by some traffic obstruction, tension builds. When the obstruction is removed, the driver "slingshots" forward, releasing the tension.

Frankie was unfortunate to get caught behind a bunch of blue hairs when church let out. When he finally got to his turn-off, he experienced the slingshot effect and drove like he was in NASCAR the rest of the way home.

The Gatsby Effect

When the subject becomes wrapped up in feelings that are dictated by the need for an unobtainable dream. The person can seem incredible irrational and borderline obsessive. The subject may or may not be aware of dream being unattainable. If they are aware, a dilemma most often will occur in regards to pursuing the goal or dropping it. While one answer seems correct to outside people, they will seem equally as hard to the subject.

'Why doesn't Fred just stop talking to Sally. He has to know nothing is there for him. He is simply wasting his time trying hook up with her again. Ok, maybe they had something 7 years ago but come on he just needs to move on'

'He is a classic example of The Gatsby Effect.'

the 4chan effect

A sixth emotion to go with those other five new internet emotions: The desire to share something with everyone but the inability to personally send it to them characterized by the cognitive dissonance arising from wanting to share something that is either hilarious or horrifying (or both at the same time) concomitant with the pride, shame and eventual jaded let-down of realizing one has been on the internet for way, the fuck, too long.

- "I want to share 1 man 1 jar, but I can't because I fear the social ramifications. I really want to share it, but I also realize people won't "get" it, and the fact that I find it horrible, interesting, relevant and worthy of sharing despite it's abominable nature, I find disconcerting. I wish there was a way to describe that ambiguous feeling... "

Angelina Effect

A human being so amazingly hot and sexually appealing that people swear they would go temporarily homosexual just to experience it. Also known in more exclusive circles, namely mine, as the Jackman effect.

As in, Angelina Jolie Effect. Hugh Jackman Effect.

He/She walked in and the Angelina effect took hold. Everyone's head turned and there was static in the air.

Also,

I swear he/she has the Angelina effect.
