Straight Edge

A bunch of fags that swear off drinking, smoking, and doing drugs. Useally in the hardcore scene. More often than not they are 9-5 edge, breaking there pledge under the table. Straight Edge people have been known to become violent against people for not being edge or being "racist". Going so far to kill a guy wearing a Lynard Skynard shirt. Also will beat your ass in the pit, if your hands are not marked with the straight edge X's.
Did you see those straight edge fags smoking pot. Their full of shit.

It's about keeping it pure, staying true to yourself, and respecting your body. No drugs, no alcohol, no promiscuous sex. The issue of sex has become skewed and you may find people that call themselves straight edge and still have promiscuous sex. I personally have never heard of someone breaking edge because they had sex with some one. Although that does not mean I don't consider promiscuous sex part of being straight edge. That's another issue.

Straight Edge originated with the band Minor Threat. Minor Threat was formed in D.C. in 1980. Ian McKaye, vocals, wrote "I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't fuck, at least I can fuckin think," In the song Out of Step which was released in early 1981 on their EP, In My Eyes. This was later coined as straight edge with a song entitled Straight Edge on Minor Threat's next self titled EP later in 1981. The term caught on throughout the D.C. punk/hardcore scene and also spread throughout Boston.

Straight Edge is often abbreviated as sXe. The "X" became associated with Straight Edge because of a loop hole in laws of Washington D.C. at the time. The legal drinking age at the time was 18. Most shows were booked in clubs and bars and this posed a problem for most of the kids going to shows as they were minors. Another law in Washington at the time was that all bars must also serve food. Therefore there was no such thing as a bar in D.C. in 1980, there were only restaurants. Kids worked with bouncers and said they would put X's on their hands to symbolize that they were minors and could not drink. This eventually evolved into a symbol of Straight Edge and kids began to X up even when shows were not at bars.

straight edge

Nerdy white bread assholes who want to belong to a group very much like scenesters.

What's with the bandana around the mouth anyway? that's for taggers, people who actually live life, oh yeah that's a great way of getting shot up by latino's and blacks btw.
I can understand not doing drugs, or maybe trying it once (the non-addictive ones) to see what it's like. I can even understand not having sex because there are disease's spreading like crazy... but not drinking is just lame imo, everyone needs to kick back sometime and just relax with a little booze, it wont kill ya so quit being so square

Straight Edge

A set of rules that came from a Punk band called Minor Threat, now a trend for the teens of America to suck on. The rules are, no drugs, and no casual sex (only in a commited relationship).

Kids nowadays treat it like it's some fucking cult, or a group of people you have to be with to be cool (read; fashioncore).

Kids who tell their friends they are Straight Edge, then turn around and go hang with their prep friends to smoke and drink to seem popular with all audiences are not rare and hard-to-come-by when it comes to Straight Edges.

They usually imprint X's on their arms for some reason or another with magic marker. More then likely, they feel the need to spread their houlier-then-thou shit eatting attitude. You might want to try attention whore for some more info on that.

The teens of America have also turned and twisted the rules. Commited relationships to them, is basically a one night stand at their friends house with a girl they just met, where they bust out a condom they stole from their parents cabinet, without realizing the sole reason the condom was there was to prevent another fucking accident, such as themselves.

Oh, and drinking caffeine is ok, even though, sXe (as it's called) is another form of veganism, which is breaking those rules itself.
Hey, look at my arm. See those Xs I imprinted on my limb with a Super Sharpie marker? That means I'm Straight Edge LOLOLOLOL!

straight edge

A nicer word for the term "Pussy". They think they are tough but really bake cookies for each other and enjoy each others company at hardcore shows because rather than getting a life, or a girlfriend, they slam dance to 3 chord music.

Joe:D00D I AM TEH Straight Edge PH33R ME!
Bob:Shut up, pussy.

Straight Edge

If you become Straight Edge you have agreed to a certain way of life. You don't do drugs, alcohol, smoke or have casual sex. You can also be vegan/vegetarian and not drink caffiene. Basically you are protecting your body.

There are people who are straight edge, know what it means and sticks with it. They are known as the true straight edge.

Others do it just to fit in and be cool. They tell everyone their straight edge and don't stick to the rules. Idiots.

Lots of straight edge people also draw X's on their hands.
Straight Edge is a life choice, that you won't be forced to make but probably should as it's better for you.
