genetic algorithm

A type of programming that incorporates the Darwinian theory of evolution by creating a large number of possible solutions to a problem randomly and creating "offspring" possibilities by combining certain traits randomly also randomly selecting certain solutions for termination based on their closeness to solving the problem (IE: survival of the most use full solutions) in addition the computer selects a number of solutions randomly and creates small "mutations" in their characteristics. the computer continues this process until the given criteria for an acceptable solution are met.

I hear that NASA has a new type of antenna that has a great range and low energy usage!
yeah they used a genetic algorithm to design it!

Generation Dead

Generation Dead is a young adult romance/supernatural novel by Daniel Waters. I follows a girl named Phoebe and her best friends, Margi and Adam, whose world has been left baffled by a strange phenomenon...dead teenagers not staying dead. For reasons unknown, a small number of the teenage dead are returning to 'life'. They lack a heartbeat and all other traditional life-signs, but are capable of thought, movement and speech (to varying extents). They are widely feared by the living, despite the fact that they do not present a threat, but Phoebe finds herself attracted to Tommy Williams, one of the "living impaired" teens at her school.

Did you read Generation Dead? I thought that it portrayed issues of prejudice in modern day society very well.

A unique marketing predicament where a particular brand of a product becomes so common or dominant, its brand name becomes the generic term for the entire product category. Examples include Kleenex, Vaseline, Xerox, Windex and WD-40. Some trademarks have actually lost their legal protection in the U.S, including Aspirin, Thermos and zipper.

#1: "Hand me a Kleenex, would you please? I'm all stuffed up."

#2: "These are Puffs. Shouldn't you say 'facial tissue'?"

#1: "I just say Kleenex for all of them. The brand has committed genericide. Now just give me the damn Kleenex already, my nose is dripping!"
