Grade-grave

The result of a student carelessly receiving a zero on an assignment in the early stages of a school year, earning an F overall F. The student then is forced to spend the rest of the term digging themselves out of the "grade-grave" into the shining and glorious sun of an A-. Symptoms of grade-grave include raging parents, a heart attack in the 6-week report card, and constant sleepless nights spent calculating the various difficult paths to grade resurrection.

Guy 1: Bro, Mr. T's Spanish class is so easy, I like half-ass the homework every night! Wanna go out to the movies tonight?
Guy 2: Nah man I can't, gotta grind on that 1 paragraph assignment tonight.
Guy 1: That crap? Took me like fifty seconds!
Guy 2: Yeah, well I'm working my way out of a grade-grave.
Guy 1: Bro, that sucks!

During Hunter's (The Golden Guard) mental breakdown down in The Owl House, Eclipse Lake (S2EP9) he dug his own grave due to failing another mission for his abusive uncle because he'd rather be dead than go back empty handed.
