Hating isn't just not liking someone/something, it's a word to describe a feeling of disgust towards that someone/something.

People often say it when upset.

Alyssa: Yes! Me too!

They experienced so much pain at the hands of anti-semites that they have literally turned against their own heritage.

Nothing scares me more than a self-hating Jew, because he has actually turned against himself and his own people.
