In basketball, when an offensive player is poised to score emphatically on the defense, except at the last moment his shot, usually an easy dunk or layup, is blocked with an equal or greater amount of emphasis. When one is writing or typing a piece of literature and they cannot think about what to put next. It gets annoying and it takes another minute to think about what to put down next.
