hipster

A word that can be used to describe almost anyone. People are hipsters for liking obscure things, but they are also hipsters for liking mainstream things because that's "ironic". People are hipsters for latching onto a new trend, but they are also hipsters if they liked a thing "before it was cool." The word is mostly used by hipsters, because hipsters hate hipsters and are not aware that they are hipsters.
Make up your mind, am I a hipster if I drink microbrewery beer or if I drink PBR?

Hipster

Originally intended to be a word to describe individuals with "alternative" (as opposed to "mainstream") tastes in art and culture (and they explicitly suggest it by the way they dress etc) . However the modern adaptation of it is used very liberally. Two individuals can be each other's "hipster" if they have opposite tastes in art and culture. It is also used as a retaliation against less known art which have fan following from art critics by some people who can't relate to it.
I read a review of an album on some well known website or magazine. It has great reception. I listen to that album for myself but I don't really enjoy it. But I feel paranoid that so many other love it. Thus I declare these people as "hipsters" so I can feel that I have superior taste in music.
