can I ask you something?

Something someone usually says when they're about to ask you out or something else weird/(awesome if you like them too) like that.

Otherwise they are being lazy and are asking for a favor, it depends, if it's a text, be scared, if there having a conversation with you and you can see them or it's over the phone, your probably alight.

guy: can i ask you something?
girl: sure...
guy: will you go out with me?
girl: let me think about it.
