Society is known for it's sense of social rejection of people that use this word, even if it's not being used in a hateful context for very little reason.

From firings, riots, public beatings, public shaming, the n word is so hated despite it not specifically originating from the slave days at all.

Haley: Who's to say they're "smart" words? Language was made up by mankind, so these words are made up.
Jane: Colleges clearly care about this superficial stuff.
