Appalachian coal miners a century ago , that tried to unionize and have affordable rent , then the wealthy / government retaliated. Many died or where Injured. Those who fought to be in a union wore red scarfs collectively and where known as red necks . This is where the term actually comes from.

Amazon or Starbucks is fighting off their employees, like rednecks , when they tried to form a union .

I don't know if this is true, but I think rednecks are people who own a gun, live in the south of the US, love America way too much, and are homophobic/ transphobic. I guess some honorable mentions are: love god, have a gross beard, owns a truck.
