It's most common form is a base in which large groups of people committed to a certain fandom/interest, post in various threads about various things. This can range involve a range of things, including gaming/games, technology, roleplay, dirty fanfics and more.

I totally have a life, despite being a nerd and spending approxmitely 101.223104% of my life on an internet forum.

I like to roleplay as a sexy original character on an internet forum.

Internet drift

When you start searching the internet for one thing and end up looking at a series of unrelated things, usually culminating in browsing memes or that "one weird trick" you didn't know you needed to complete your life.

Me: "Hey Amy, what'cha doing?"
Amy: "Browsing the internet."
Me: "You've been on the computer for three hours! I think somebody is experiencing some Internet drift! I'm just sayin."

internet hoarder

Noun: one who frequently has 10+ tabs open whilst surfing the internet.

Even though Phil had 9 websites open that he wanted to check out, he continued finding other pages to open and to save for later and thus became known as an "internet hoarder."
