One of the worst things on the internet. Sometimes, it’s done well, but 93% if the time it’s shipping characters that should not be, and completely ruining your impression Of whatever the fanfic is about.
Shrek rubbed princess peach’s arm tenderly giving her a living stare...
Ew, man, why is that fanfiction of your search history?

Dobby shifted closer to Hermione. She begged him to plunge his pulsing, 6 foot long dick into her cavernous meat sack. She craved the pleasure that would come with his tip brushing against her most sensitive areas. Why are you still reading?
"Ah yes, Steve reads Harry Potter Fanfiction. Steve likes men"
"Oh my, I just jacked off to a graphic short filming describing in depth the texture of Dobby's balls. Whoopsie"

google definition: fiction written by a fan of, and featuring characters from, a particular TV series, movie, etc.
insert name had just finished watching a Larry Stylinson video, and decided to write fanfiction about it.
here is what insert pronouns wrote (taken from random fanfic, all credits to the original author)
Do you think for like, the twin's birthday Louis was there, and Daisy gets up and tugs on his shirt to get his attention. When he smiles and looks down at her, squatting down to her height, she looks at him sadly and says, "Bubba, where's Harry?" And then Doris gasps, (suddenly realizing that Louis' usual companion is gone.) and looks around searching for him. Ernie opens his mouth and speaks, "'Arry?! 'Arry?!" Louis has to bite his lip and calm them down, before speaking very slowly and very sadly, "Listen lovelies, Hazza couldn't be here today, but I promise you four," as he speaks he steals small glances at Phoebe, who is just standing there, her shoulders heaving as she cried silently, because she knows. She knows why he isn't here. "Harry would be here if he could. He's um...he's working. But Hazza loves each and every one of you. And I promise you, Daise and Phoebs, the minute your feet touch down in LA, Friday. Harry will be there. And we will celebrate your birthdays together. Again-" Louis gets cut off by his mother as she rubs Phoebe's shoulders lovingly. "Because we are all family. And family never gets left behind, girls."

A creative way for fans of a specific work of fiction to actively shit all over a writer's hard work.
Typically characterized by bad grammar and worse writing, fanfiction strives to undermine the careful development of popular characters by having them act in character-breaking ways.
The goal of writing fanfiction is often to find popularity among fellow unpublishable writers and fans of a common work of fiction.

"In my spare time I enjoy writing LOTR fanfiction that goes wholly against the characters and world Tolkien strived to create. I am the cancer of the creative writing world."
