It's when some does or says something in a public forum, thinking it will be a quintessential mic drop moment, but it comes off awkward, reeking of Fremdschämen (secondhand embarrassment), and is just an epic fail. Depending on the person/forum/action, instead of applause or renown, there's backlash or ridicule.
