A metal head is someone who listens to metal. Any metal at all. Shut up with all this "only 80s thrash metal" bullshit, and all the "true and false metal" crap.
Both thrash and nu-metal can be good in their own ways. There's no such thing as a "false metal" band. If it's metal, it's metal. Period. Who cares what genre Slipknot is in? Who cares if Testament is from the 80s? They're both metal, so it's not wrong for a metalhead to like them. I personally like both of them, so just stop the stupid debate of which bands are true and which are not.
However, a metalhead may indeed despise such music as rap, pop, or pop punk, for either being mainstream, or full of shit. And most of it is. However, just because a band is mainstream does not specifically mean it sucks. So System of a Down appeared on MTV. Does that mean they're the worst thing to happen to music since 50 Cent? No! They're simply getting their music out to more people. If you really want to vent your anger out because a band is popular, go take it out on their stereotypical fans, for being such airheaded idiots and making the band look bad - not the band itself.
As for the dress code, there is no set one. Most metalheads, however, can be characterized by either shoulder-length or shaven hair, leather jackets, band t-shirts, and lots of studs and spikes in their accessories. There is also no set way to behave in order to be a metalhead. You don't have to do drugs, you don't have to drink, and you don't have to be the toughest S.O.B. in the world who can demolish 20 asses in a fight. You can be a very friendly sweet person who hates fighting and still be a metalhead.
Just be yourself, and listen to all the great metal you love. That, is what makes you a metalhead. Not taking drugs and ranting about true and false metal. That, is what you call an intentional conformist.

Most basically, a fan of metal music. Metalheads are stereotyped as loud, obnoxious, stupid, drunk, and non-achieving; also as defiant, free-thinking, tough, and fed up with the social status quo. There is an element of truth to all of these, particularly the last.
Metalheads tend to be clannish, or at least identify with each other due to familiarity with esoteric bits of information on bands that most people have no clue exist.
Ways to spot a metalhead: long hair, t-shirts with band slogans and logos, denim or leather clothing, proclivity for yelling "JUDAS FUCKING PRIEST!" or other such barbarities.

People who listen to and respect ANY metal genre, whether it be newer bands like Korn, Slipknot, Bullet for my Valentine, Atreyu, or classics like Slayer, Pantera, Metallica etc. There is NO stereotype for metalheads, they're not always dressed in black, have long hair, are satanic, drink/do drugs, mosh, or go to concerts....these are all generalizations.
I'm a short, quiet asian chick who is currently wearing a pink flowery summer dress and heels. I don't cuss, I do well in school, never get into trouble, and I've never done drugs or drank alcohol in my life. Sound like a metalhead? No. Am I? Fuck yeah \m/

Also extremely dedicated to the sub-culture which surrounds the music, which usually consists of;
* Drinking Heavily
* Destroying objects/property after drinking heavily
* Attending concerts or "gigs" of Heavy Metal bands, international or local
* Throwing ones head back and forth in an energetic fassion in time with the music
* Froming circles at concerts known as mosh pits
* Hanging with fellow followers of the metal faith and discussing/listening to Metal
* General disregard for the mainstream ala. Disliking "tools" such as Limp Bizkit, KoRn, Slipknot and others.
The average Metalhead is easily identified by other Metalheads, a Metalhead usually has a distinct "uniform" that he/she wears. it consists of;
* Long hair (usually past shoulders)
* A shirt which bears the logo of the wearers faviorate band (this peice is mandatory)
* Faded jeans, and on occasion leather pants
* A leather jacket
* An abundance of accesories, usually spiked wristbands ranging from small studs to inche long nails, "bulletbelts" and generally a many other metalic objects
* Tatoos and Peircings are not usually required but do help
A Metalheads life revolves around the music, and are generally aggressive folk because of their isolation, that is why the Metalhead has strong bonds with their metal breathern, usually picking a fight with a Metalhead will result in a tough scuffle, and is not recommended.
