Taking overly elaborate measures to avoid a minor expense, e.g., maintaining an aquarium of squids and milking them for their ink to avoid the cost of printer ink.

I know it’s milking the squid, but these egg prices have me thinking about building a chicken coop myself.

Squid

A sometimes derogatory, usually joking adjective used to describe nerds and grinders. People who fit this description are extremely interested in STEM, (allegedly) intellectually superior, elitist, overly hardworking, and have few personality traits beyond studying and sweating. In some circumstances, the word 'squid' may be used as praise. Generally, a squid will evolve through the following stages: baby squid--> calamari squid--> giant squid--> colossal squid--> kraken. The squid is also the official mascot of the math team and is used on all the merch.

That dude is such a squid, he got a perfect score on the math test even though the average was 55%.

Stupidly Quick, Underdressed, Imminently Dead - idiots on motorcycles with more horsepower than brains, pulling wheelies and stoppies, weaving through traffic at insane speeds, and generally trying to live out their action-movie fantasies on public roads with little or no safety gear.
