To shut someone out is to stop being friends with them without really letting them know. It's a popular tactic among junior high students who are suddenly too cool for their friend(s), but too cowardly to do the right thing.

She didn't invite me to her party, she won't return my phone calls, and she's always hanging out with that new girl now. I can't believe I'm getting shut out! Why, oh why, what did I do?

Shut out

When someone is unintentionally isolated from modern culture due to strict parenting, lack of internet access, or no exposure to social media. This makes them struggle with social norms, slang, memes, and pop culture references, leading to social awkwardness. They often find it difficult to relate to their peers, missing out on inside jokes, trending topics, and shared experiences that shape social interactions. As a result, they may come across as out of touch, overly formal, or just "different," making it hard for them to fit in.

Fifa Shut-out 

The act of being completely ignored whilst trying to interact with someone playing fifa (particularly men), or similar in-depth games. It may seem as though to player has registered you, potentially with a grunt or nod, but in actual fact they have no idea what you want.
Often the players have acknowledged you are there, leading to the odd phenomenon of the players realising someone wanted them during a pause in play, asking each other what was required, before returning to play none the wiser!

1. Woman - Guys can you help me with the shopping?
Men - Yeah
Woman leaves
Man 1 - What did she want?
Man 2 - No idea, Fifa Shut-out

2. Woman - Could you help me take off my bra?
Men - Sure, Whatever

Show Up, Shut Down, Clock In and Check Out. 

This phenomenon describes how some people react to undesirable and uninspiring work situations. This phenomenon is mainly applicable to people working boring, mindless jobs, most of whom perform rote work -- e.g., data entry -- or are paid simply simply for their presence -- e.g., a booth attendant. Activities that constitute 'shutting down' and checking out' include: napping, reading, sending excessive/unnecessary text messages, and listening to one's iPod.

Elliott: I'm surprised Tom hasn't gotten more sleep today -- doesn't he have to work the graveyard shift tonight?
Mark: Yeah, but remember, he's a booth attendant in the middle of the night...he's just going to Show up, Shut down, Clock in and Check out.
