The one eyed smile is a staple of the character Hide Katsu from the danganronpa fangame Hopeful Hideaway. In the second chapter of the fangame Hide got his eye scooped out with a spoon, from then on in text, instead of using the normal emoticon of :) they used the one eyed smile .) instead. The one eyed smile emoticon has started to spread in danganronpa discord rp culture.
