To immerse yourself or participate in a "lower culture," as a way of going on a cultural vacation and generally feeling better about yourself and your specific identity group.

Deeply tied to elitism, and often racism. Or just whitebread boredom.

Johnny Whiteguy hung out in the 'hood on weekends, to kick it with the brothers, check out the sisters, and play ball, but mostly to pursue his annoying habit of cultural slumming.

Hanging out in an enclave of the rich when you yourself live in or are staying in a distinctly more modest neighborhood.

While visiting a friend in San Diego who lives on Ladrillo St., I spent an afternoon walking the streets and bluffs of La Jolla. When I asked my friend to drop me off on his way to work, I said, "I'm going to go reverse-slumming in La Jolla."
