An slightly outdated term for what is more commonly called "transgender"
Some people prefer this term, but it's important to ask first because many people find it offensive.

Someone who doesn't not identify as the the gender they were assigned at birth.

I heard that they're transsexual, is that true?

transsexual 

A transgender person who has undergone sex reassignment surgery. Usually of a binary gender. This term is considered outdated.

She was assigned male at birth, and identifies as a transsexual woman.

Transsexual 

A mildly offensive term for transgender people who have had a gender reassignment.

If not offensive, then it is probably outdated. Just be careful how you use it.

Slightly Confused Cis Guy:"Not to be offensive, but are you transsexual? I've not seen a guy with such a high voice since 5th grade!"

Trans Guy: "Actually, I am! And yeah, my voice is the one thing that didn't change all that much, so..."

Slightly Confused Cis Guy: "Oh, cool. Have a nice day, bro."
