One who believes that the only solution to most, if not all, of the world's biggest problems is a catastrophic event of epic proportions.
Like their Republican counter-parts in 2008, Democratic Apocalyptists began praying for a Zombie apocalypse after the 2010 mid-term elections.

noun - refers to believers in any lame-brained end-of-the-world theory, particularly those ascribing to the ridiculous 2012 hypothesis.

apocalypturd 

Dismissive or derogatory term for doomsday or apocalypse scenarios, and of groups, people or media focused around them. May also encompass conspiracy theories. Usually indicates a self-defeating level of hyperbole or histrionics on the subject's part.
That disaster movie was a pile of apocalypturds.
