Nalanda is a place in Bihar which was famous in history for Nalanda Mahavihara ( university) , a large Buddhist monastery, in the ancient kingdom of Magadha (modern-day Bihar) in India.

It is a famous place in Bihar , India .

The site is located about 95 kilometres (59 mi) southeast of capital city of Patna near the city of Bihar Sharif, and was a centre of learning since ancient times . It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
