The developer had paid off the politicians and so was feeling secure in the outcome of the vote. However, after mockingly eating the 5th BANANA, to mock the hundreds of protests regarding the proposed landfill in the bay, the Commission finally could not withstand the cries of protest and voted the developer's proposal down.

Get the BANANAmug. White collar workers with many of the same characteristics of trailer trash, but which take it to a higher level of cultural depravity. Developers who demand perverse subsidies for creating urban sprawl, too big to fail and jail bankers who demand bonuses when they take down whole economies, flamboyant and racist professional sports team owners who feels entitled to publically funded grandiose stadiums.
The tailored trash claimed to be self made millionaire, but instead was on public welfare in the form perverse public subsidies, and entitlements to public infrastructure for developments that consumed nature and spit out urban sprawl.

This occurs when chemicals, toxins, particulate matter, biological organisms, nutrients, radiation etc are released in large enough amounts to create an unsafe environment in which life forms get sick or poisoned. People can get sick directly from even small amounts of pollution such as mercury, or they can indirectly such as from the harmful effects of solar radiation when the ozone has been removed by a chemical bath. Nuclear fallout from power plants or weapons can have significant effects even when small amounts are released.
Global poisoning may dwarf the harmful effects of global warming and give India and China as examples.

Get the global poisoningmug. The intuitive path that is created by walkers/hikers or drivers vs a marked trail or road. Once established it can become an alternative or preferred route. Typically it is a short cut on a marked trail or road but it can also be a well-worn ribbon of exposed soil or rut in an open space where there are few trails to connect desired areas.
The desire line became so popular that the marked trail became overgrown and hard to follow from lack of use. However, over time the desire lines became so eroded they were unusable and abandoned in favor of the switch back trails.

When Obama came to power he had the grassroots support of the majority of voters in the county. Now he is being "lead from behind" by a few of the biggest banker behinds (asses) on Wall Street. Instead of going to jail these Wall Street bankers are taking home millions of dollars in bonuses, that are made possible by government bailouts and by raising service fees to outrageously high levels. While much of the fuss is over protesters that Occupy Wall Street little mention is made of the Wall Street bankers who live in luxury and "Occupy the White House".
The tea party leaders are being "lead from behind" by the Koch Brothers, and Fox News (who carefully packages their message).
In America to understand politics you need to look at who is behind the leader. Sometimes it is hard to see who it is because it is often only through a small opening that they become visible and it is not always open.

Get the lead from behindmug. Someone who openly doubts and/or worries excessively about a political strategy and related outcome. Someone who does not have the guts to tackle controversial political issues whose outcome is difficult to address.
When you come up with a buzz words like Defunding Police to convey a concept like rethinking the police as the panacea for all social problems there will be a lot of politicians will become a bed-wetter.

Get the bed-wettermug. A person who has continually proved over and over again that they can perform below the lowest levels of moral and ethical codes. One that seems to not be able to improve of their ability for selfish and narcissistic reasons. Someone who lacks the logical basis for even grasping ethical and moral behavior in a way that is not harmful to those around them such as a sadist or corrupt politician.
The leader was a truly inferior person. Things did not work out well of the public at large because of the widespread corruption and mean-spiritedness. Even those who enabled him were significantly disappointed and felt deplorable for doing so.
