The period that started on January 1st 1900 and ended December 31st 1999. Often confused with the 20th century (which began and ended exactly 1 year later) as well as the 1st decade of the 1900s.
During the 1900s, many disenfranchised groups got a better life, but on the downside, the landscape was destroyed by the automobile (as well as the airplane) and all the things that followed.

Get the 1900smug. A widespread phenomenon which occurs when (usually) a couple will buy a house based on it's expansive lawn and one story layout because they have, or intend to have, two or more children.
One of the leading causes of suburban sprawl, childsprawl typically involves a ranch house set back from the street with a large open (read-a homogenously treeless lawn) back yard (which is often used to build another room onto the back, since zoning won't allow the front yard to be built on no matter how deep it is).
Dog Sprawl is similar to, and oftentimes accompanied by, dogsprawl, except that rather than use a public baseball diamond or other playing field, they use the yard for this purpose (which, in turn, compacts the soil and renders it unproductive.)

According to Wikipedia, the name comes from the "Aboriginal word Yinculyer which one source gives as referring to the rising of the planet Venus"

Every year, thousands of illegal migrant workers wade across the Rio Grande and back for starving wages and the constant threat of being poisoned by pestacides and other leathal substances. They're the reason the Yanks can get such cheap meat and produce at the local supermarket.
