Monitorium

noun — A place, platform, or system where people collectively watch, verify, challenge, and make sense of what is happening in a community or environment using a mix of official data, lived experience, maps, sensors, field evidence, and public accountability.

Unlike a dashboard that simply displays numbers, a Monitorium is designed to question them. It treats monitoring as an active civic process: if the official data says everything is fine but people on the ground say otherwise, the Monitorium flags the contradiction and pushes it toward verification.
“City Hall says the neighborhood has 100% reliable water access, but residents logged outages in the Monitorium, so the project was paused until the data could be ground-truthed.”

“A dashboard tells you what the data says. A Monitorium helps you figure out whether the data is actually true.”
