beautiful letdown

Commonly known as a CD by Switchfoot, a "beautiful letdown" is a breakup that happens in a way where one of the two is not fully aware of it. A prime example is "taking a break" from the relationship.

"She said we were taking a break...three months later I found out that it was permanent...what a beautiful letdown.."
