An extremely rough project time or cost estimate based more on gut feeling, vague experience, or sheer improvisation than on data, analysis, or concrete planning. The term is a blend of “ass” (colloquially: pulled from one’s ass) and “estimate.”

"So how long will it take to finish this feature?"
"Honestly, that's just an asstimate right now — somewhere between 2 days and 3 weeks."
