Not related to "suck wind" or "sucking wind".

State of having had all the good removed from one's life, work, situation, etc; as if sucked right out by a huge vacuum cleaner. Similar to: "hung out to dry"; "left twisting in the wind".

"All they left us with was the sound of sucking wind."
