dragonforce

The Fallout Boy of Metal. Loved mostly by 12 year olds, most fans grow out of liking them when they get in High School. The majority of their fans don't play guitar or are extremely bad at it (in terms of technical skill) and usually don't realize that speed is not some heavenly gift, it can be achieved by anyone.
DragonForce sound like video game music.

herman li

Lead guitarist of DragonForce. Can't play his own songs live without missing 3/4's of the notes. Don't believe the live videos on youtube, those are just good ones, where you can't even tell how much he is messing up. The guitar is sped up in the studio, and corrected to the appropriate pitch so it sounds like he is playing that fast without the chipmunk sounding effect you get from speeding something up. But still sounds different than if you actually play that fast.

Even if he could play that fast he still isn't a good guitarist. He is ok, none of his riffs are that great, most attention doesn't come from his skill but his "speed".

upside down rock on sign

The middle finger of Metal heads.

The rock on sign upside down. Given as a rude gesture to mostly people wearing Slipknot shirts, and shirts of other gay Metal bands. It is basically saying the opposite of "Rock on".
I saw this kid at the mall in a Slipknot shirt, and I gave him the upside down rock on sign. Then he ran away and cried.

The Blues

The greatest music genre, the power and skill of it came from centuries of slaves being put in pens, and some of the only things they were allowed to do were sing, or play instruments if they had any.

As a result it built up and became an amazing style.

It turned into Rock N' Roll in the 20th century and is played by musicians such as Eric Clapton.

Some of teens condemn The Blues saying its boring, but if it wasn't for the blues we wouldn't have any of the music we listen to.

nu-metal

A genre of music that appeared in the 90's. It uses elements of Hip-Hop and Hardcore. The style is not Metal, it is associated with Metalcore. Examples of Nu-Metal are:

Korn
Linkin Park
Slipknot

Nu-Metal is hated with a passion by Metalheads, yet, without Nu-Metal tons of Metalheads wouldn't exist. Nu-Metal provides a good middle ground for people who like pop music but aren't ready for the growls, and shrieks of Metal. Most people who get into Nu-Metal end up listening to Metal afterwards.
Nu-Metal is not Metal.
