phrase commonly used to say that something is leaking profusely when it is not supposed to leak at all. A sieve is a wire mesh or perforated metal utensil used for straining or sifting. Therefore anything that is leaking like a sieve is not holding water at all.

I have tons of water damage from the rain. My roof leaks like a sieve.

2) bad defense in sports (i.e. poor goalie in hockey)

1) The pipes are leaking like a sieve. The plumber must have done a crappy job.

2) That goalie sucks. He is about as porous as a sieve

phrase used the morning after a heavy night of drinking. it refers to the very nasty taste left in one's mouth as part of a hangover.

cory: hey craig, you got any pets?
craig: no. why?
cory: cause last night i passed out on your floor, and i think a cat shit in my mouth.
