Maladaptive Day-dreaming Syndrome (MDS)
A chronic lifelong condition where someone has vivid daydreams for hours or even days to dissosiate from reality, in order to brainstorm creative ideas / stimulate themselves / cope with chronic stress, trauma, depression or lonliness.
(Notes:
It often impacts their ability to focus, as well as leads to fatigue, migranes and even giving up work just to daydream. Even though it has negative side-effects, the daydreaming becomes addictive, because of the adrenalin rush related to escaping the harsh reality.
The worlds of maladaptive daydreaming syndrome can be very detailed like in a film / novel and include characters.
Unlike ADHD, Maladaptive Day-dreaming Syndrome doesn't necessarily include the other symptoms of attention deficit hyperactive disorder. It also isn't psychosis as the person is aware that their daydreams aren't necessarily real, even if they feel very realistic to them).
