Dunkadelic Phat 5 of College Basketball
The first time 2 Phat 5 teams met in a National Championship game was in 1957. North Carolina ( UNC )beat Kansas ( KU ) who was led by Wilt Chamberlain in 3OT, 54-53. The 1957 Championship is the only National title game to go into 3OT and, it featured 2 Phat 5 programs.
The only 3OT game in history had 2 Phat 5 programs, and a young Wilt Chamberlain. Now that's Dunkadelic!!!!!

From 1964 to 1973 UCLA won 9 of the 10 National Championships. They defeated 2 of the other 4 Phat 5 programs during the Championship run.
1. 1964, UCLA 98- Duke 83
2. 1968, UCLA 78- UNC 55
* They also defeated ( UK ) Kentucky in 1975. It was the last game coached by John Wooden who won 10 titles in 12 years.

This was also the first time that 5 starting black players ( Texas Western now UTEP, U. of Texas El Paso ) played 5 starting white players ( UK ). The game was won bY Texas Western 72-65. This game is credited for opening the door for black high school stars to be recruited by major white college programs who were reluctant in the past. The ( DUNK )was banned by the NCAA in 1967, the year that Lew Alcindor ( Kareem Abdul Jabbar ) was to start play as a sophmore at UCLA. The ( DUNK ) was allowed back into college basketball in 1976. The last year a Div.1 program ( IU )has gone undefeated for an entire season.

Reggie Miller ( UCLA ) is the NBA All-Time leader in 3 pt. field goals made and attempted. Reggie has spent his entire 18 year career with the Indiana Pacers. Is the 13th player in NBA history to score more than 25,000 points.
The Phat 5 greatest All-Time shooter is Reggie Miller, Reggie would battle another of the Phat 5 greats the greatest of them all. Michael Jordan ( UNC ). Now that's Dunkadelic!!!!!!

C.M. Newton ( UK ) Hall of Famer as a contributor. A member of the 1951 NCAA Championship team ( UK )coached by Adolph Rupp. Newton, the ( UK ) Athletic Director from 1989-2000. Hired Rick Pitino in 89' to restore the Kentucky pride. Hired first African American Coach in school's history ( Tubby Smith ) to the winningest Div. 1 college basketball program in NCAA history. Hired first African American women's coach in school history in 1989.
C.M. Newton is a Phat 5 legend and made an historical decision when he hired Tubby Smith in 1997. ( UK ) on to win the 1998 NCAA Championship. Now that's Dunkadelic!!!!!

As of the 2004-05 college basketball season the top 3 All-Time most NCAA Tourament wins are by Phat 5 coaches.
1. Mike Krzyzewski-66( Duke ), 66-18
2. Dean Smith-65 ( UNC ), 65-27
3. John Wooden-47 ( UCLA ), 47-10
They are also the top 3 coaches in Final Four appearances.
