Wow its JONATRON!!
1. (Noun) A car (usually older) in a run-down state due to the owner not having the money to fix it.
2. (Noun) A 'legacy' car passed down as the owner gets a newer car. Older teens will pass it on to younger siblings as well. In the military, hoopties can go through many owners as people are posted to and away from a base.
(Example, an Army sergeant in 1990 bought a hooptie from a soldier leaving Germany. He sold that car to another when he was posted elsewhere in 1992. He then was reposted back to that same unit in 1994 and was able to buy the same car back.)

"Dude, I bet you're stoked about the new car! I know it was embarrassing driving around in your brother's old hooptie."
