An anecdote that is exaggerated or outright fabricated in order to make a point, sometimes consisting of a one-sided narrative in which the speaker was deemed unilaterally correct by all imaginary parties. The word is a portmanteau of "anecdote" and "mom" because of mothers' tendency to do this especially when cautioning their kids.

Differs from "anecdata" in that a momecdote didn't even happen, but was crafted to impress someone else in a conversation. Momecdotes often are laughably transparent.
"No one we know lost an eye from running with untied shoelaces. It's a momecdote."
"I doubt the manager hung his head in shame after your mom tore up the sales flyer in his face. It sounds like a momecdote."
