Despite the moronic ramblings of some of the other writers posted here, the Desert Eagle is an extremely powerful, relenting and highly accurate pistol capable of dealing massive amounts of damage due to it's large calibers. Adding to its great size and weight is the fact that it has a slide that travels rearward when reloading. This takes most "climb" out of the recoil and will put less snap on the wrists of a shooter than a revolver of the same caliber. What does this mean? Faster target acquisition for follow up shots. I have found the accuracy with a scoped 10" barrel from a supported firing position can be equal to many rifles at the distance of 100 yards. All in all, the Desert Eagle can support a variety of calibers and barrel lengths making it one of the most versitile handguns in production. Why did this gun become popular in movies and video games? Because it was, and still is, popular in the shooting world.

The caliber is not the only factor for the amount of gunpowder, the lenht of the Shell also matters. For example the diameter of a 7,62 x 51 mm NATO round is smaller than the diameter of an 9 x 19 mm Parabellum round, but has definitely a bigger load of gunpowder.
...and for all you people who don't know what the hell caliber is, it's the diameter of the bullet. More caliber = more gunpowder = more power.

Not overly practical, although often used as a hunting pistol in 10" configurations, or as a bear defense gun.
There are many more powerful handguns however, the .454 Cassul, 480 Ruger, 475 and 500 Linebaugh are all available in Numerous revolvers, also Desert eagle themselves make a Single Action revolver known as the BFR that can be chambered in numerous rifle rounds including .223 (same as M-16) and 45/70 A big ass mother of a round that has tremendous energy using modern loads.

Often contracted to "Deagle" (pronounced like "beagle"), this red-giant motherfucker of a gun is aggrandized by rappers, movies, and video games. Pimply-faced fans of said rappers, movies, and video games often praise this generally impractical penis extension. It is availible in .357 auto, .44 auto, and .50 Action Express. Approximately .17 KG empty, the Eagle, manufactured by Magnum Research, is the most powerful semiautomatic handgun availible. Instead of traditional blowback operation, the Deagle is gas operated, a la the M-16, AKM-47, G3, MP5, etc. The weapon is knowing to "stovepipe", when the slide/bolt assembly snaps back and forth so quickly and with so much force that the ejecting shell casing gets caught in the top of the slide and is subsequently crushed, jamming the weapon.

desert eagle- a simiauto hand gun that is most commonly found in 357mag,44mag,50AE with 9,8,7 magazine capacities. fitted with either a 6 or 10 inch barrel. The desert eagle weighs 72oz or 4.5lbs it is made by IMI but sold in the US by magnum research. Cost new from about $1250.00 and up depending on where it was purchased and the finish of the gun/ accessories.
To clear up common myths and misinformation of the desert eagle
The desert eagle is a large hand gun but is completly manageable. It will not break your wrist or come near doing so (Know a kid that could shoot a Smith and wesson 500 mag.{more powerful then the 50AE} when he was 9 and did not get hurt in any way.) It is not the best pistol in the world due to its size and weight and the reliablity. You can shoot it with one hand but the average hunter/shooter with much shooting experince would not do it since it is fairly difficult to hold 4.5lbs strait out and be accurate. And if you do shoot it with one hand most will not drop it and it will not hurt you when shot properly. Yes it can kill a bear and kill most animals but its nothing to brag about there are thousands of hand guns that can do the same and hit much harder(S&W500 or S&w460)and be more effective. The desert eagle is not a smart choice for defence against animals(or anything else) due to its weight and bulk 4.5lbs doesnt seem like much but packing it on your side makes you tired very quickly ecspecaily if all you do is sit on your comp and play CS all day. The fact that its a simiauto does not make it better in any way then a revolver. Also Magnum rounds like 357,44,50AE(the recoil and power from these cartriges are not what many think them to be) can be shot off quickly when done by someone who knows what the fuck they are doing. The CS nerd thougt the "deagle" was the best firearm in the world since you could kill things in one shot.
