When your girl friend is jealous that you are messaaing another girl on facebook, myspace, etc. So, because your girlfriend is jealous, you also send her a message to make up for it.

I sent my girlfriend a pity post so she wouldn't be mad at me.

An act of creating a post on social media to gain pity, may also be to gain likes or upvotes as well.

Greg created a pity post on reddit about not knowing how to gain karma. People feel bad for Greg not knowing how and gave him upvotes through pity.
