A diener is an autopsy tech. The word comes from the German “Leichendiener,” or “corpse-servant.” A good diener is worth his or her weight in gold, according to my father, a pathologist.
My father, who was a pathologist, was appalled when his diener bought a motorcycle; they’d both seen too many motorcyclists on the autopsy table.
