It freakin IS NOT a holiday. It's a month where Muslims fast from dawn to dusk in order to better understand the plight of those who go without even basic needs like food. It's a period of abstinence - in ALL aspects, which means no foolin around til your fast is over. But when it's time to break the fast, y'all can pig out!

Ramadan

Also known as "fasting month", this 9th month of Islamic calendar is when eligible Moslems are obliged to fast from dawn to sunset for 30 days straight. The name Ramadan comes from the Javanese phrase "ra madhang", which means "not eating".
During Ramadan, I always feel a sense of community as everyone comes together to break their fast at sunset.
